It’s very strange. Mel Brooks movies were progressive when I was a kid, but if you watch them now they are jarringly archaic.

I re-watched the Bad News Bears with my son. He was shocked at the racism and the sexualization of a 13-year-old Tatum O’Neil. I started to explain that having a racially diverse baseball team with a girl pitching was the shocking part, but then I just shut up.

I had to admit, it’s a terrible movie.

I love Mel Brooks. I still have a friend I call “Mongo”. I can remember watching Blazing Saddles with him like it was yesterday.
