There was a period in the 80s when electric ice cream makers were all the rage. They were bulky machines that required putting a cylinder in the freezer for two days before pouring your recipe into the machine. Then a motor did the cranking. The idea was that home made ice cream would be better than anything you could get at a stand or store.
But it wasn’t. Now I know why. Like potato salad and apple pie, it’s all about the recipe. You have to know what you are doing.
Now that I understand what an “ice cream social” is supposed to be, I’m sorry that I’ll never get to go to a real one.
