While I concede that you are undoubtedly right, and that Pooh-bear could not be considered a “large” dog by modern standards, I will only say that in the 1970s people didn’t really think much about their dogs. They just had dogs. The dogs just did doggish things, and the people that “owned” them only thought about them while scraping uneaten salad into their dog bowls.

It is a point of fact that no dog had an ACL tear before 1985. Now, everywhere I look I see dogs blowing out their ACLs and having to be carried around by their human partners.

The lack of specificity in describing Pooh-Bear is part of the linguistic fuzziness surrounding dogs during this period. This, you may remember, was a time before before dog beds.
